Stretch & Lycra Suiting for Uniforms

A small percentage of elastane changes how a uniform is worn. Cabin crew reaching into lockers, front-of-house staff on their feet all day and client-facing teams in fitted cuts all ask more of a cloth than a rigid suiting gives. Stretch suiting recovers to shape instead of bagging at the knee and seat.

The recovery comes from a small elastane share woven into a polyester base, and the weight decides the role: our softer qualities around 177 GSM suit close-fitting cuts worn through an active shift, while the heavier builds around 216 GSM carry structured jackets that must look pressed at the end of a long rotation. Both are piece-dyed, so shades are matched to a program's existing identity rather than picked from a fixed card.

Two things to fix before a stretch program goes to bulk: cutting and laundering. Panels cut under roll tension come up short once the cloth relaxes, so the cutting instruction is to relax after spreading, and elastane loses its recovery to high heat long before the polyester around it wears out, so the wash and pressing profile is agreed with the laundry up front. We flag both at specification because they decide whether the stretch survives the program.

We weave it as a piece-dyed polyester-lycra, so it keeps the shade depth and wash fastness of an all-polyester quality and adds give. Two weights cover most briefs: a 177 GSM with a soft, fluid drape, and a heavier 216 GSM with a comfort-soft finish for structured tailoring.
